About This Game
Game Introduction
Pskov Checkers reimagines the classic game of checkers on a hexagonal board, where each cell is a strategic point. The board is oriented with corners facing players, opening up three directions for movement instead of the usual two. This geometric twist adds depth and requires fresh thinking. The core objective remains to capture all of your opponent's checkers, but the hexagonal layout changes how you approach positioning and captures. Suitable for all skill levels, the game offers two board sizes: a small 37-cell board and a large 61-cell board, each demanding distinct strategies. Whether you play solo against an AI, challenge a friend locally, or compete online against global opponents, Pskov Checkers provides a unique mental workout.
How to Play
To begin, set up your checkers in a distinct color: 13 on the small board or 24 on the large board. The board is positioned with corners facing you. A simple checker moves forward in three possible directions. Capturing is mandatory, and if multiple captures are available, you must complete the entire series, choosing freely among branches. A checker is promoted to a king only upon reaching the farthest corner cell, ending the turn. Kings become powerful long-range pieces, moving across multiple empty cells but cannot initiate a capture on the same turn they are crowned. The primary goal is to capture all of your opponent's checkers to claim victory.
