A thoughtful puzzle game for strategy fans.

Description

Pskov Checkers transforms traditional checkers into a hexagonal battlefield where every cell matters. The board is oriented with corners facing players, creating three directions for movement instead of two. This geometric shift adds depth and requires new strategies. Suitable for all skill levels, the game offers two board sizes: a small 37-cell board and a large 61-cell board. Each size demands distinct approaches to positioning and capture sequences. Whether you play solo against a sophisticated AI, challenge a friend locally, or compete online against global opponents, Pskov Checkers provides a fresh mental workout. An interactive spectator mode lets you watch matches and suggest moves, fostering a learning community.

To play, set up your checkers: 13 on the small board or 24 on the large board, each in a distinct color. The board is positioned with corners facing you. A simple checker moves forward in three possible directions. Capturing is mandatory, and if multiple captures are available, you must complete the entire series, choosing freely among branches. A checker is promoted to a king only upon reaching the farthest corner cell, ending the turn. Kings become powerful long-range pieces, moving across multiple empty cells but cannot initiate a capture on the same turn they are crowned. The primary goal is to capture all of your opponent's checkers to claim victory.

Hexagonal board with three-direction movement. Mandatory captures with branching sequences. King promotion only on farthest corner cell. Dual board sizes for varied strategy. AI opponent for solo practice. Local multiplayer for face-to-face matches. Online multiplayer for global competition. Spectator mode with move suggestions.

Pskov Checkers offers a balanced mix of familiar checkers rules and new geometric challenges. The mandatory captures and king promotion create thoughtful puzzles. Playing against AI or friends keeps each session engaging.
